The build-up to a Montreal Canadiens (Habs) game. The Real Madrid of ice hockey doesn't let fans or visitors forget its history.

The Habs have a penalty shot, and the arena holds its breath. (A penalty shot is extremely rare, and is a special moment for a hockey fan.) No goal though.

The Habs overwhelm the Philadelphia Flyers' defence in the build-up to their fourth goal.

A quiet street corner by the hostel. Locals nod and say "Bonjour". I like it; Anglophones could learn a thing or two from Montreal manners.

Boul. Saint-Laurent (I think) in the Plateau Mont-Royal district. I was looking for Montreal bagels at the time.

Looking downtown from near McGill University.

Waiting for a metro around midnight. The subway stations in Montreal are excellent - much better than those under Toronto.

A nod to Paris.

Basilica Notre-Dame.

L'Hôtel de Ville - Montreal's City Hall.

Vieux-Montreal - the old city. It's about the size of Dublin's Temple Bar and is equally over-rated.

  • The Flyers are once again overwhelmed. This comes as no surprise to this native Philadelphian. Our sports teams are notorious for tanking, except, occasionally, the Eagles.

  • You have a good team this year. They should at least make the play-offs.

Spare a thought for the floundering New York Knicks... nah, don't.

  • LOL. I also think that Old Montreal is overrated. Old Quebec is 10 times better.
