Syrian media: unsurprisingly, an irony-free zone.

Ah, Middle-Eastern dictatorships and their loving media organs. Not the likeliest place for a sense of irony (or wit) to flourish, you'd think. And you'd be right. I have here a choice quote from Tishrin, a Syrian state-controlled newspaper. They seem to be very concerned that foreign interests might try to play a hand in Lebanese politics and development. Such fraternal concern is touching, you must admit. Especially since Syria occupied Lebanon for decades. It's nice to know they're all on good terms, eh? Oh.

Developments are accelerating in Lebanon, which is under foreign domination. The enemies of Lebanon are sowing anarchy...

The report comes via an AFP article syndicated in The Arab News. Alas, my Arabic isn't up to verifying its accuracy, so I'll have to take their word for it. Regardless, a marvellous quote it is. Irony? Pah!
