Discipline in professional sport.

Player discipline seems to be preoccupying football's bigwigs such as Sepp Blatter, the FIFA president. It's not just the players these days that are over-paid bums. Sadly for Sepp, he can't turn the clock back to the days where only the officials received a living wage, in between the ritual flogging of the youth team.

Sepp Blatter believes that Sir Alex Ferguson and Sven-Goran Eriksson must exert greater control over Wayne Rooney. The Fifa president expressed his admiration for Rooney's talent but indicated also that his volatile temperament needs to be curbed. "When you play at the level he is playing, he should be called to order," said Blatter last night. [Insert pause for added effect] "I wouldn't say that you should have to beat him."

Ah sure everyone deserves a second chance, eh Sepp? Keep the whip under the bed... for now.
